Statlyst data desk · updated November 7, 2026 · next review December 22, 2026

DoorDash is the best food delivery app for most US diners in 2026, with 993 million orders in the third quarter and DashPass at $9.99 a month. Uber Eats suits people who also ride with Uber, since Uber One at $9.99 covers both. The cheapest option is Wonder, which charges no membership and lists free delivery on the East Coast.

Adoption figures come from company filings, official releases or independent surveys, linked in each entry. We compared documented features and published prices; we did not run hands-on tests. Scoring method

This ranking is for US diners choosing which delivery app to use and whether a membership is worth it. It covers ten apps: the national marketplaces (DoorDash, Uber Eats, Grubhub, Instacart and Postmates), DoorDash's curated app Caviar, the independent-restaurant app ChowNow, the East Coast food hall Wonder, the pizza app Slice and the rapid delivery service Gopuff. Scores weigh features 35%, adoption 35% and value 30%. Adoption comes from order and user counts in SEC filings where the company is public, and from App Store rating counts otherwise; the companies do not publish a common US market share figure, so read these as signs of scale. Membership prices come from vendor pages and the vendors' own US App Store descriptions. We compared documented features and published prices; we did not place test orders.

AssessmentDoorDash is the app most US diners should start with: it lists more than 310,000 menus and reported the largest order volume we could document. Uber Eats is close behind and is the better buy for anyone who also rides with Uber. Grubhub is the value pick for large orders because it waives delivery and service fees on restaurant orders over $50 without a membership. Instacart fits grocery-first households, and Caviar is a useful side app for DashPass members. Wonder, Slice and ChowNow skip memberships entirely, and Gopuff covers late-night essentials.

  1. 1

    DoorDash

    9.2overall

The largest US food delivery marketplace, covering restaurants, groceries, convenience stores and retail in one app.

Best forMost US diners who want the widest restaurant choice and a membership that also works on Caviar.

    Adoption data

993 millionDoorDash reported 993 million total orders across its marketplaces in the third quarter of 2026, up 28% year over year including Deliveroo.

DoorDash, DoorDash third quarter 2026 financial results (Form 8-K exhibit 99.1) (2026): “Total Orders increased 28% year-over-year (Y/Y) to 993 million.”

DoorDash is the default choice for US diners because it combines the largest selection with the largest order volume we could document. Its App Store description lists more than 310,000 menus and over 55,000 grocery, convenience and retail stores across more than 4,000 cities, and national chains from McDonald's to Chipotle. The company reported 993 million orders in the third quarter of 2026, a figure that now includes Deliveroo. DashPass costs $9.99 a month after a 30-day trial and removes delivery fees on eligible orders, with up to 10% off some orders and 5% credit back on pickup. Members should read the fine print: DoorDash's help center says benefits only apply once an order passes a store's minimum, and service fees still apply. DoorDash also announced a deal to acquire Instacart in October 2026, so membership terms across the two apps could change once the deal closes.

    Strengths

    • +Broadest stated restaurant selection of any app here
    • +Largest disclosed order volume in this ranking
    • +DashPass benefits also apply on Caviar

    Limitations

    • −DashPass benefits apply only once an order meets the store's minimum
    • −Service fees still apply to members
    • −The pending Instacart deal may change memberships and apps

SummaryThe safest pick for most US diners, with the widest restaurant coverage and a membership that carries over to Caviar. Check whether your usual orders clear the DashPass minimum before paying $9.99 a month.

  2. 2

    Uber Eats

    9.1overall

Uber's delivery app for restaurants, groceries and alcohol, tied to the Uber One membership shared with Uber rides.

Best forPeople who already ride with Uber and want one membership for rides and food.

    Adoption data

215 millionUber reported 215 million monthly active platform consumers across rides and delivery in the third quarter of 2026, up 14% from 189 million a year earlier.

Uber Technologies, Uber third quarter 2026 earnings press release (Form 8-K exhibit 99.1) (2026): “Monthly Active Platform Consumers (“MAPCs”) 189 215 14 %”

Uber Eats is the strongest alternative to DoorDash and the better buy for anyone who also takes Uber rides. Uber One costs $9.99 a month on Uber's US page and pairs $0 delivery fees on orders above the minimum with 5% Uber One credits back on rides. The App Store listing adds up to 10% off orders over $15 at participating non-grocery stores and 5% off grocery orders over $35. Uber reported 215 million monthly active platform consumers in the third quarter of 2026, though that count blends riders and diners; its Delivery segment alone booked $28.5 billion in the quarter. The app also handles groceries, alcohol, pharmacy items and pickup orders, and lets you request a ride without switching apps. Uber states that other fees and taxes still apply to members, so the membership pays off mainly for people who order or ride several times a month.

    Strengths

    • +One $9.99 membership covers both food delivery and Uber rides
    • +Large global user base disclosed in SEC filings
    • +Monthly membership that can be cancelled without fees

    Limitations

    • −Uber's user count mixes riders and diners, so food-only scale is unclear
    • −Other fees and taxes still apply to members
    • −Order minimums apply to the $0 delivery fee

SummaryThe best pick for people who split spending between Uber rides and food delivery, since one $9.99 plan covers both. Diners who never ride should compare it directly with DashPass.

  3. 3

    Grubhub

    8.6overall

A long-running US restaurant delivery app with no delivery or service fees on restaurant orders over $50.

Best forHouseholds and groups that place large orders, where the $50 fee waiver matters most.

    Adoption data

4.7 millionGrubhub's iPhone app listing on the US App Store shows 4.7 million ratings, a cumulative count of reviews left by users.

Apple App Store, Grubhub app listing (US App Store) (2026): “Grubhub: Food Delivery Restaurant Takeout & Grocery Free Share 4.7M Ratings”

Grubhub has the most generous perk for people who do not want a membership: its App Store description promises no delivery or service fees on restaurant orders over $50, which suits families and group orders. Grubhub+ costs $9.99 a month after a 30-day trial and adds unlimited $0 delivery fees and lower service fees on eligible orders. The Grubhub Guarantee credits the difference, plus $5, if you find a lower price for an eligible order on a competing platform. Grubhub says it lists hundreds of thousands of restaurants, including chains such as Taco Bell, Chipotle and Shake Shack, and accepts PayPal, Venmo, Amazon Pay and Cash App. It publishes no order or user counts, so our adoption score rests on its 4.7 million App Store ratings, well behind DoorDash and Uber Eats. In cities where it has strong coverage, it is often the cheapest way to feed a group.

    Strengths

    • +Fee waiver on $50+ restaurant orders even without a membership
    • +Longest free trial of Grubhub+ tied with DashPass at 30 days
    • +Price-match style guarantee with a $5 credit

    Limitations

    • −Smaller selection than DoorDash or Uber Eats in many areas
    • −The company publishes no order or user counts
    • −Waivers and guarantees carry eligibility terms

SummaryThe best value for big orders, since the $50 fee waiver needs no membership. Check local restaurant coverage first, as it trails the two leaders in many markets.

  4. 4

    Instacart

    8.4overall

A grocery-first delivery service from Maplebear that also offers $0 delivery on eligible restaurant orders for members.

Best forHouseholds that order groceries more often than takeout and want restaurant delivery in the same membership.

    Adoption data

91.4 millionInstacart reported 91.4 million orders in the third quarter of 2026, up 10% year over year.

Instacart (Maplebear Inc.), Instacart third quarter 2026 financial results (Form 8-K exhibit 99.1) (2026): “Orders of 91.4 million, up 10% year-over-year.”

Instacart is a grocery service first, but its membership now covers restaurant delivery too, which makes it a fit for households that would otherwise pay for two plans. Instacart+ costs $9.99 a month or $99 a year after a 14-day trial, and gives $0 delivery fees on grocery and retail orders of $10 or more, Costco orders of $35 or more and eligible restaurant orders of $25 or more; service fees still apply. Members can share benefits with family and get Peacock and New York Times Cooking. The company reported 91.4 million orders in the third quarter of 2026, almost all of them grocery. Restaurant choice is narrower than on dedicated delivery apps, and Instacart agreed in October 2026 to be acquired by DoorDash, so the overlap between the two memberships may change.

    Strengths

    • +Annual plan at $99 is the only verified yearly price here
    • +Covers nearly 40,000 retail locations across North America
    • +Membership bundles Peacock and NYT Cooking

    Limitations

    • −Restaurant ordering is secondary to groceries
    • −Restaurant orders need a $25 subtotal for $0 delivery
    • −Pending acquisition by DoorDash could change the service

SummaryThe best pick for grocery-heavy households that order takeout now and then. Diners who mostly want restaurant meals will find more choice on DoorDash or Uber Eats.

  5. 5

    Caviar

    7.5overall

A DoorDash-owned app that curates higher-end and local restaurants and accepts DashPass benefits.

Best forDashPass members who want a curated list of local and higher-end restaurants.

    Adoption data

171KCaviar's iPhone app listing on the US App Store shows 171K ratings, a cumulative count of reviews left by users.

Apple App Store, Caviar app listing (US App Store) (2026): “Caviar - Order Food Delivery Local Restaurants & Takeout Only for iPhone Free Share 171K Ratings”

Caviar is DoorDash's curated app for diners who care more about where the food comes from than about breadth. Its App Store description promises local restaurants and exclusive eateries, from family-run spots to Michelin-rated and The Infatuation picks, some of which it says you will not find on other services. Deliveries run on DoorDash's network, and DoorDash's help center confirms that DashPass benefits apply on Caviar when you use the same login, so the effective membership price is DashPass at $9.99 a month. There are no order minimums, scheduling is supported, and deliveries are no-contact by default. The trade-off is selection: Caviar lists far fewer restaurants than DoorDash itself, and its 171,000 App Store ratings show a niche audience. For DashPass members it is a free second app worth keeping for special nights.

    Strengths

    • +Restaurant list focused on quality local spots
    • +No extra membership for DashPass members
    • +No order minimums

    Limitations

    • −Fewer restaurants than DoorDash itself
    • −iPhone app only on the App Store, no iPad version
    • −Small user base compared with the leaders

SummaryWorth installing for any DashPass member who wants a short list of better local restaurants. As a standalone app it is too narrow for daily orders.

  6. 6

    Wonder

    7.5overall

A delivery app and food hall chain on the East Coast that combines dishes from chef-led restaurant brands in one order.

Best forEast Coast diners who want food from several cuisines in one order with no delivery fee.

    Adoption data

40KWonder's iPhone app listing on the US App Store shows 40K ratings, a cumulative count of reviews left by users.

Apple App Store, Wonder app listing (US App Store) (2026): “Wonder: Food Delivery Top restaurants delivered Only for iPhone Free Share 40K Ratings”

Wonder works differently from the marketplaces above. Its core offer is more than 20 exclusive restaurant partners, including menus from chefs such as Bobby Flay and Marcus Samuelsson, whose dishes are made to order and delivered together, alongside neighborhood restaurants. Its App Store listing says delivery is free and that you can mix dishes from several menus in one order, which solves the common problem of a household wanting tacos and barbecue on the same night. You can also pick up or dine in at Wonder locations across the Northeast. The catch is reach: service centers on the East Coast, so most of the country cannot use it, and its 40,000 App Store ratings are the smallest base here. In 2026 the company also filed confidentially for an IPO. Where it operates, it is a low-cost way to feed a group with mixed tastes.

    Strengths

    • +Free delivery with no membership to buy
    • +Several cuisines combined into one delivery
    • +Dishes are made to order and delivered together

    Limitations

    • −Available only around its East Coast locations
    • −Smaller menu choice than open marketplaces
    • −Smallest App Store rating count in this ranking

SummaryThe best no-membership option for East Coast diners who want several cuisines in one delivery. Outside its service area it is not an option.

  7. 7

    ChowNow

    7.4overall

A commission-light ordering app for independent local restaurants, with takeout, curbside pickup and delivery.

Best forDiners who want to order from independent restaurants without marked-up menu prices or a membership.

    Adoption data

26KChowNow's iPhone app listing on the US App Store shows 26K ratings, a cumulative count of reviews left by users.

Apple App Store, ChowNow app listing (US App Store) (2026): “ChowNow: Local Food Ordering Takeout That's Fair For All. Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS. Share 26K Ratings”

ChowNow takes a different stance from the big marketplaces. Its App Store description says it does not believe in very high commissions for independent restaurants or in marked-up menu prices for diners, and it focuses on local restaurants rather than national chains. You can search by cuisine, restaurant name or deals, see a map of places open now or running a promotion, and choose takeout, curbside pickup or delivery with real-time tracking. Checkout supports Apple Pay and saved cards, and support is available 24/7 by chat, SMS, phone or email. There is no membership. The app lists service in major metros such as Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Austin and Seattle, but its 26,000 App Store ratings show a small audience, and some reviews report uneven delivery quality. It suits diners who want to support a favorite neighborhood restaurant at menu price.

    Strengths

    • +No marked-up menu prices, according to ChowNow
    • +No membership to buy
    • +24/7 support from people, not only bots

    Limitations

    • −Mostly independent restaurants, so fewer national chains
    • −Coverage centers on larger US metros
    • −Small user base, with 26K App Store ratings

SummaryA good choice for ordering from independent restaurants at menu price, with no membership. Its smaller network means it works best alongside a larger app.

  8. 8

    Postmates

    7.4overall

An Uber-owned delivery app for restaurants, groceries and retail, run on Uber's platform.

Best forLong-time Postmates users, mainly on the West Coast, who prefer its app to Uber Eats.

    Adoption data

2.1 millionPostmates's iPhone app listing on the US App Store shows 2.1 million ratings, a cumulative count of reviews left by users.

Apple App Store, Postmates app listing (US App Store) (2026): “Postmates - Food Delivery Eats, groceries, and more. Only for iPhone Free Share 2.1M Ratings”

Postmates still runs as its own app, but its App Store listing shows Uber Technologies as the developer, and it covers the same ground as Uber Eats: restaurants, groceries, liquor stores and beauty brands, delivered around the clock with pickup and scheduling options. Its 2.1 million App Store ratings reflect years as a major independent service before Uber bought it. The problem for a new user is that it adds little that Uber Eats does not already do, and Uber does not report Postmates figures separately. We could not confirm a current membership price on Postmates' own pages from our location, so its price is marked pending rather than assumed. Existing users who like its interface can keep it; new users are better served by Uber Eats, where Uber One's $9.99 price is published.

    Strengths

    • +Developed by Uber Technologies on the same platform as Uber Eats
    • +Large historic user base with 2.1M App Store ratings
    • +Around-the-clock delivery

    Limitations

    • −Membership price could not be verified on its own pages
    • −Adds little over Uber Eats for most users
    • −iPhone app only on the App Store, no iPad version

SummaryFine for people who already use it, but Uber Eats offers the same network with a published membership price. New users should start there.

  9. 9

    Slice

    7.4overall

A pizza-only ordering app that connects diners with independent local pizzerias for delivery or pickup.

Best forPizza lovers who want to order from independent pizzerias and earn free pizza.

    Adoption data

740KSlice's iPhone app listing on the US App Store shows 740K ratings, a cumulative count of reviews left by users.

Apple App Store, Slice app listing (US App Store) (2026): “Slice - Order Local Pizza PickUp & Delivery Near You Free Share 740K Ratings”

Slice is a specialist, and that is its appeal. The app lists independent neighborhood pizzerias rather than every restaurant in town, and it lets you build a custom pizza, add wings, salads and desserts, and save orders for one-tap reorders. There is no membership: Slice Rewards gives one Pizza Point for every $15 spent and a free large cheese pizza at eight points, so a regular customer earns a free pie after about $120 of orders. A live tracker shows when the pizza goes into the oven and when it leaves. Some App Store reviews describe uneven delivery service, so experience can depend on the shop. Its 740,000 ratings, with a 4.9 average, show a loyal base. If pizza night is a weekly habit, Slice rewards it without a monthly fee.

    Strengths

    • +Loyalty program with no membership fee
    • +Focus on independent pizzerias
    • +Detailed pizza customization

    Limitations

    • −Pizza and sides only
    • −Some App Store reviews describe uneven delivery service
    • −No published user or order counts

SummaryThe best pick for regular pizza orders from local shops, with free rewards instead of a membership. It does not replace a general delivery app.

  10. 10

    Gopuff

    7.2overall

A rapid delivery service that ships snacks, groceries, alcohol and ready-to-eat food from its own micro-fulfillment centers.

Best forLate-night snack and essentials orders where speed matters more than restaurant choice.

    Adoption data

267KGopuff's iPhone app listing on the US App Store shows 267K ratings, a cumulative count of reviews left by users.

Apple App Store, Gopuff app listing (US App Store) (2026): “Gopuff - Grocery Delivery Food & Essentials Fast Only for iPhone Free Share 267K Ratings”

Gopuff is not a restaurant app, but it covers a need the others handle poorly: snacks, drinks, groceries and quick meals delivered in minutes, often late at night. Instead of sending couriers to stores, it ships from more than 500 micro-fulfillment centers it runs itself, which its App Store listing says serve more than 1,000 cities and lets it promise delivery in as fast as 15 minutes with no substitutions. Many locations run 24/7, and SNAP EBT works on eligible items. The Gopuff FAM membership waives delivery fees on every order and unlocks member deals, but Gopuff's site blocked our checks, so its price is pending. Its 267,000 App Store ratings point to a modest base. Treat it as a complement to a restaurant app for midnight cravings and forgotten essentials, not as a replacement.

    Strengths

    • +Fastest stated delivery time in this ranking
    • +No substitutions, since it sells its own stock
    • +Many locations open around the clock

    Limitations

    • −Not a restaurant marketplace
    • −FAM price could not be verified on Gopuff's own pages
    • −Selection limited to what each center stocks

SummaryThe quickest way to get snacks and essentials at odd hours. For restaurant meals, pair it with DoorDash or Uber Eats.

Choosing a product

Most memberships cost the same
DashPass, Uber One, Grubhub+ and Instacart+ all list $9.99 a month in the US, and Instacart+ also sells a $99 annual plan. Since the price is the same, choose by which app has your usual restaurants, then decide on the membership.
Check the order minimum before paying
Membership perks apply only above a subtotal minimum. Uber One's discount starts on orders over $15, Instacart+ needs $25 for $0 restaurant delivery, and DoorDash says DashPass benefits apply once an order meets the store's minimum. Service fees and taxes still apply.
Large orders can skip the membership
Grubhub waives delivery and service fees on restaurant orders over $50 for all users. If you mostly order for a family or a group, that perk can be worth more than a monthly plan.
One membership can cover two apps
DashPass works on Caviar with the same login, and Uber One also covers Uber rides. Count the apps and services you already use before you add another subscription.
Read scale figures with care
DoorDash's 993 million quarterly orders include Deliveroo outside the US, and Uber's 215 million monthly consumers mix riders and diners. Grubhub, Wonder, Slice, ChowNow, Gopuff, Caviar and Postmates publish no separate counts, so we use App Store ratings, which accumulate over years.

Frequently asked questions

Which food delivery app is the biggest in the US?

DoorDash reported 993 million total orders in the third quarter of 2026, the largest volume we could document, though that figure includes Deliveroo. It also lists more than 310,000 menus. Uber reported 215 million monthly active consumers across rides and delivery in the same quarter.

Is DashPass or Uber One the better membership?

Both cost $9.99 a month in the US. DashPass also works on Caviar and includes a 30-day free trial, while Uber One adds credits on Uber rides. Pick the one tied to the app that has more of your usual restaurants.

Which delivery app has no membership fee?

Wonder lists free delivery on its app with no membership, though it serves only the East Coast. Slice and ChowNow charge no membership, and Slice gives a free large cheese pizza after 8 reward points. Grubhub waives delivery and service fees on restaurant orders over $50 for all users.

Is Grubhub+ free with Amazon Prime?

We could not confirm current Prime terms on Grubhub's or Amazon's pages from our location, so check your Prime benefits page. Grubhub's App Store listing shows Grubhub+ at $9.99 a month after a 30-day trial.

What happens to Instacart after the DoorDash deal?

DoorDash announced a definitive agreement to acquire Instacart in October 2026. Until the deal closes, Instacart+ still costs $9.99 a month or $99 a year, and the two memberships remain separate.
